The Western Dance as we know it including Line, Partner, Couples (TwoStepWaltz ,Swing etc)  all began the first time in Britain and Europe when a man ( Bob Chappell ) had a vision of something he saw on in America, and brought Dick and Geneva over to demonstrate it 1984

In 1984 Bob Chappell who had the position of entertainment's manager for Pontins decided to take his wife June on vacation to America. It was while out there Bob and June attended a night club for a social evenings entertainment, and halfway throughout the night, two Americans took center stage and started to teach Western Dance! after they had finished their teach session, Bob made it his business to get acquainted with these two American instructors and made friends with Dick and Geneva Matties
This was the start of a relationship that was to change the dance scene in Britain and Europe, it was also the start of a long and dedicated friendship between Bob,June,Dick and Geneva.
At Bobs invite in 1984 Dick and Geneva came to Pontins in Britain and gave demonstrations and also taught those at the festival this new form of dance.
"This was the very first time that Western Dance was introduced in Britain ".

Because of such interest at this festival Bob invited Dick and Geneva back for the following year, where they started the D&G School and trained people how to teach the dances, there are many well known people out there who were in the original few who started with Dick & Geneva in 1985 like Liz Clarke, Norma Morrison to name a few.

In 1994 Anne & Brian Bambury became directors of the D&G School, and changed the name to the one still used today the 'D&G School for Western Dance Instructors', Anne & Brian still continue with the school as sole directors. They have fully qualified training officers throughout Europe who train people to become proficient instructors in the art of all western dances, Line-Partner-Couples and become part of the:- 'D&G School for Western Dance Instructors.'
